EDDIE MONEY ANNOUNCES FIRST STUDIO ALBUM IN OVER 15 YEARS - BRAND NEW DAY
Multi-Platinum rock star Eddie Money today announced the upcoming release of his 12th studio album BRAND NEW DAY on Money Music, available in digital format on July 19, with the single of the same name set for release May 10. “This is my first studio album in over 15 years,” Money exclaims, “I’m so happy with the record – I think it’s one of the best albums I’ve ever made! And I’m really thrilled with the title tune. ’Brand New Day’ is a great song among all the other incredible songs on the record. It’s an autobiographical tune. It’s going to be a fantastic album!”
The iconic rocker utilizes the album format to release a Money version of an autobiography. “Man, I’ve been doing this all of my life, I just thought it made so much sense you know?” The song “Brand New Day” serves as the index to the rest of the album, 11 very personal tracks that can be interpreted as an insight into his rock ‘n’ roll life and a paean to friends now gone.
I don’t need to write a book about the chances that I took
All the hearts I had to break
I had to live with my mistakes
All the ghosts that haunt my past
All the dreams that didn’t last
Burning candles at both ends
There’s no way to pretend
Watching bad luck take away all my friends
As a boy I never cried, ‘til the day my mama died
After that I left my home, San Francisco all alone
With Eddie, Bill and Dave all gone
Thought I’d put it in my song
Maybe to you it won’t mean a thing
It’ about my life I want to sing
The multi-talented Money delivers with that signature rasp, in songs that showcase both the east and west coasts that define his career. “I Love New York,” and “Shake That Thing,” transition to mellower takes on “California Dreamin,” “Dancing In the Moonlight,” and “Song For Jesse.” Eddie wrote and produced all songs on the album, except “California Dreamin’” which was written by son Desmond. Other notable contributors include friend and collaborator Don Cromwell who co-wrote and co-produced much of the album.
“Waddy Wachtel is a sweetheart and we got to hang a lot. He helped me with the record too,” Eddie adds. Wachtel contributes his impeccable guitar chops on four tracks including the title “Brand New Day;” and notably daughter Jesse vocalizes with dad on “Shame On Me.” Other chapters of the Money songbook include the songs “Western Hero,” “Ain’t No Wishing Well,” and “These Missing You Blues.”
Money opens the Summer Concert Series at Detroit’s DTE Energy Music Theater (formerly Pine Knob) for the 28th straight year, part of his “Brand New Day” tour in support of the album release.
